Looking for a Good Yugo SKS Source - and Glock Advice

I'm days away from determining my residence for the next year and change and am leaning towards remaining in a relatively gun friendly state (NC). As such, I am looking to beef up my personal arsenal.

After careful research and much advice from this forum, I have determined that the SKS 59/66 is simply a better weapon for my needs. If anyone has a good source for acquiring this model, I would greatly appreciate it. The prices I have seen ($250-$300) appear to be higher than true market (~$175-$200). Of course, the dollar's demise could be the cause of a price increase.

While I'm at it, I should add that I'm (assuming I do not relocate to a state that is a capital of gun control) looking for a good handgun. The Glock 23 has my attention, but I'm open to alternatives. Thanks in advance.

You shouldn't have to pay more than $200 for an SKS, obviously - the only thing I would suggest is a local gun show. As far as the handgun goes, I've never seen anything wrong with a simple Glock 19 (for carry).

The SKS supply is getting tighter as people start to see the writing on the wall. The AWB will be reinstated by either the American Communist Party candidate Barak Obama or the American Nazi Party candidate John McCain (aka "The Manchurian Candidate").

Still some around at decent prices, especially if you use your C&R license. I have picked up a few firearms and stocked up on ammo as well. But since you ask about SKS:

You can try your hand at the auctions, howver, the reserve prices tend to run a bit high for some reason.

As far as the Glock, I have the 9mm guns (Glock 26, 19, 17) because I just rather stay with a single calibre for simplicity sake. Same with my AK and SKS rifles. Although I do have a few Weatherby hunting rifles and several C&R firearms.

I strongly suggest that you get an FFL 03 C&R license and save yourself a lot of cash on transfer fees. Everyone should have one. I suspect after January 20 the party's over and hopefully our firearms are "grandfathered" in for our sake. The two reigning authoritarian presidential candidates are not going to be friendly to us. Pray that they experience a bout of very poor terminal health.

The Glock 19 and 23 are the two most popular Glock models by far...they are very handy and effective weapons carried as a side arm or concealed.

Best of luck.

As far as the hand gun is concerned the glock is the most popular these days. While shopping, I would suggest you also be open to comparing the Springfield XD series.

Investigate both with an open mind, compare the grip and the features, and make your decision. Some will decide one, some the other. I chose the XD because it fits better (contoured grip) and has additional safety features not seen on the glock.

I chose 40SW but understand why people prefer other calibers.

Enjoy the "hunt". No matter what you choose, make it "yours".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Springfield_Armory_XD
Springfield Armory, Inc. secured the licensing rights to the US market, and rebranded the pistol as the XD-9 (X-treme Duty 9x19 mm). Since that time Springfield Armory has expanded the line to include five different calibers, three different barrel lengths, and four finishes (Black, Bi-Tone, Olive Drab frame, and the newest Dark Earth frame). Due in part to Springfield Armory's aggressive marketing and competitive pricing, but also to the pistol's inherent quality and features, it has consistently gained in both reputation and market share over the last five years[citation needed]. The introduction of the XD-45 (in the extremely popular .45 ACP caliber) in January of 2006 has made the XD the "most talked about handgun" in the eyes of many interested shooters[citation needed]. The industry press took notice as well, awarding the XD-45 the title of "Handgun of the Year" from both American Rifleman magazine and the The Shooting Industry Academy of Excellence.

The 03 C& R license means theyre shipped directly to you,you have no transfer fee nor dealer's cut to pay...you get them at the wholesale price.

C&R license is $30.00 for three years. This is license to buy for your collection but not to resell for a living.

What he said. This is not a license to open a gun shop. This also could be the most expensive thirty bucks you'll ever spend....

The best part is having either long arms or handguns shipped directly to your door !
Note: this only works with arms older than 50 years or on the C&R list.

I don't have anything against Glock's but I find the trigger pull a bit "long". Have you tried a 1911 ? There are some double stack models out there which rival Gaston's capacity.

You'll also get "Dealer" discounts from Midway, Brownell's, Numrich & a bunch of others.

The deals are not as good as they used to be as more and more people got the C&R over the years. I have a couple dozen makarov pistols and Bulgarian and East German variants. I also got a dozen or so CZ 52 and CZ 82 pistols, as well as SKSs and a smattering of other firearms. Still a lot of surplus ammo out there as well.

That said, this isn't a gun dealers license. You can get those as well if you want to jump through the hoops and pay the price. For my needs, the C&R is good enough and I still get full auto firearms subject to the NFA transfer fee and background check (I live in a "machine gun friendly" state). This allows me to possess my 1928 Thompsons.

You can easily get back your $30 with the savings on your first purchase.

Can you dig it?

That was a great movie based on the a novel by Sol Yurick with great music (Joe Walsh and the Eagles). It never got the attention it deserved in 1979 but people were already worn out with all the inner city street gang violence by then and all this before the black crack gangs. Kind of a dark film and no major actors ever emerged except David Patrick Kelly who played the leader of the Rogues who since has done a lot of character parts (also good musician and practitioner of martial arts).

Re: Looking for a Good Yugo SKS Source - and Glock Advice

Yugo SKSs are only $179 at www.jensenarms.com (prices aren't online -- call them).

SKS and CZ-52 are going to become scarce in the near future as milsurp dries up. Think about it... most of the current military surplus is illegal for civilian ownership. Older milsurp firearms will eventually run out. Get them while you can.
